Organized by the Hinckley Chamber since the first Buzzard Day in 1957, the legend of the Great Hinckley Hunt is an accounting of the annual return of the buzzards, drawing the curious, nature lovers, and history buffs.
The All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast Scholarship Fundraiser
The centerpiece event is complimented by a day long craft fair, live buzzard educational presentations, a mini-carnival, and other free entertainment.A Community Volunteer Effort
Local volunteers from civic groups, churches, scout organizations, fire and police departments, as well as committed community members, work together to welcome Buzzard Day visitors the first Sunday on or after March 15 each year.
Buzzard Day Sponsorships Helped Raise Scholarship Awards to $1,000 each
(from $500).
$14,000 in scholarships have been awarded since 2016.
The Chamber also donates to local charities, the police and fire departments, as we are able.
Post-COVID Realities
The first post-COVID in-person celebration in 2022 was a delight. It was the first time to be in the brand new elementary school, and folks were just happy to join in celebration.
However, the costs associated with the event, we later discovered, DOUBLED. Pancake breakfast tickets remained at pre-COVID pricing because we did not foresee the steep increases. Now, we anticipate inflation will further affect the cost to put on the event. Yet the Chamber remains committed to the spirit of “the show must go on!”
Here’s what to expect:
- Breakfast ticket prices will be $15/adults and $10/children
- Some attractions will be shorter in duration or eliminated
How to Help
The Hinckley Chamber of Commerce is a 503(c)6 non-profit which seeks donations and sponsorships to cover the expenses associated with the pancake breakfast: pancake mix, sausages, coffee, juice, milk, syrup, disposable plates-cutlery-napkins-placemats, cleaning supplies, traffic control, insurance, advertising & printing.
Sponsors will be recognized in all advertising, promotional materials and in signage throughout the venue the day of the event.

Press releases and social media announcements begin in January, adding local press coverage in late February and increasing frequency in March up until the event on March 19.
